BELIEF CODING® 12-WEEK WEIGHT LOSS RECODE RESEARCH TRIAL

Participant Information and Terms & Conditions:

Thank you for your interest in taking part in the Belief Coding® Weight Loss Research Trial.

We are conducting this research to explore the potential effects of Belief Coding® in relation to weight loss and associated factors such as beliefs, behaviours, safety, emotions and experiences around food, eating, body image and weight.

Before agreeing to participate, please read the following information carefully. It explains what participation involves, what you can expect from us and what we ask of you.

Participation is entirely voluntary.

1. ABOUT THE RESEARCH TRIAL

The purpose of this trial is to investigate the potential effects of Belief Coding® as part of a structured weight-loss research programme.

Belief Coding® is an approach that explores subconscious beliefs and associated emotional and behavioural patterns. During the trial, participants may be invited to explore beliefs or experiences relating to areas such as food, eating behaviours, weight, body image, self-perception, habits, emotions and lifestyle.

The purpose of conducting research is to investigate outcomes objectively. Therefore, no particular outcome from participating in Belief Coding® should be assumed or guaranteed.

Belief Coding® also ascertains that each participant is responsible for their own mental health and wellbeing throughout the trial.

BCCR Limited, Jessica Cunningham, the Belief Coding® team and all associated facilitators and representatives accept no liability for any physical, emotional or psychological outcomes experienced during or after participation.

2. WHAT PARTICIPATION INVOLVES

If you are accepted onto the trial, you will be asked to participate in the research protocol for approximately 12 weeks.

This will include:

* Belief Coding® sessions

* Initial and follow-up questionnaires

* Regular check-ins

* Weight and/or body measurements

* Information about eating behaviours, habits and wellbeing

* Feedback about your experience

* Follow-up assessments after the intervention period

You will be given further information about your individual schedule before the trial begins.

To help maintain the integrity of the research, we ask participants to make every reasonable effort to attend scheduled sessions and complete requested assessments and questionnaires within the specified timeframes.

3. ELIGIBILITY

Participation is subject to the eligibility criteria established for this research trial.

You agree to provide accurate information regarding any relevant health conditions, medication, pregnancy, current weight-management treatment and other information requested during the screening process.

Please inform the research team if any relevant circumstances change during the trial, including starting or stopping medication, becoming pregnant, receiving a new medical diagnosis or beginning another weight-management intervention.

The research team reserves the right to determine that participation is not appropriate, or to discontinue participation, where this is considered necessary for participant safety or the integrity of the research.

4. YOUR HEALTH AND MEDICAL CARE

Belief Coding® is not a replacement for medical care, diagnosis or treatment.

Participation in this research trial should not be used as an alternative to advice or treatment from your GP, specialist, dietitian, psychologist, psychiatrist or other appropriately qualified healthcare professional.

You should not stop, start, reduce or otherwise alter prescribed medication or medical treatment as a result of participating in this trial unless advised to do so by the healthcare professional responsible for your care.

If you experience concerning physical or psychological symptoms during the trial, please seek appropriate medical advice.

In an emergency, participants should access the appropriate emergency medical services rather than waiting for a response from the research team.

5. EMOTIONAL WELLBEING

Belief Coding® sessions can involve exploring beliefs, emotions, memories and previous experiences.

For some people, this may temporarily bring up uncomfortable emotions or memories.

You are always encouraged to communicate with your facilitator and the BC team if you feel uncomfortable, need to pause a session or require extra after-care.

You will never be required to disclose something you do not wish to discuss.

If the research team believes that continuing the intervention may not be appropriate for you, we may recommend that participation is paused or discontinued and, where appropriate, suggest seeking support from a suitably qualified healthcare professional.

6. WEIGHT LOSS AND RESULTS

This is a research trial.

Weight loss or any other physical, psychological or behavioural outcome cannot be guaranteed.

Every participant is different and individual results may vary considerably.

Taking part does not guarantee:

* weight loss;

* a particular amount or rate of weight loss;

* changes in appetite or eating behaviour;

* changes in body measurements;

* improvements in physical or psychological wellbeing; or

* any other specific health outcome.

The purpose of the research is to investigate what outcomes, if any, are observed during the study.

7. CONFIDENTIALITY

Information shared during your participation will be treated confidentially and handled in accordance with applicable data-protection requirements.

All information shared during sessions will be kept strictly confidential, in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

There may be limited circumstances where confidentiality cannot be maintained by law, for example where there is a legal or safeguarding obligation to disclose information or where there is a serious concern regarding someone’s safety.

Where possible and appropriate, this would be discussed with you.

8. YOUR PERSONAL AND RESEARCH DATA

Participation may involve the collection of personal information and health-related information.

Depending upon the final research protocol, this may include:

* your name and contact details;

* age and relevant demographic information;

* weight and body measurements;

* health and medication information;

* questionnaire responses;

* information relating to eating behaviours and wellbeing;

* information generated during research sessions and assessments; and

* follow-up research information.

Health information is treated as special-category personal data under UK data-protection law and requires additional protection.

Your data will be stored securely and access will be restricted to authorised individuals who require it for legitimate purposes connected with the research.

Full information about who controls your personal data, the lawful basis relied upon for processing, retention periods, your applicable data-protection rights and how to raise a data-protection concern is provided in our Data Protection Policy.

9. USE OF RESEARCH RESULTS

Information collected during the trial may be analysed for research purposes.

Research findings may subsequently be used within:

* research reports;

* academic or scientific publications;

* presentations or conferences;

* educational materials; and

* communication of the overall research findings

* social media platforms

Where findings are published or presented, reasonable steps will be taken to ensure that individual participants will only be identified when the participant has provided explicit permission and consent for identifiable material to be used.

Aggregated or appropriately anonymised research data may continue to be used after the trial has ended in accordance with the research protocol and applicable law.

10. TESTIMONIALS, PHOTOGRAPHS AND MARKETING

Where Belief Coding® would like to use identifiable participant material publicly, permission and consent will be requested.

You may decline promotional or marketing consent without affecting your eligibility to participate in the research.

11. RECORDING

Sessions will be recorded for our own training purposes and to provide participants with the opportunity to access replays when they cannot attend sessions live.

12. VOLUNTARY PARTICIPATION AND WITHDRAWAL

Participation in this research trial is voluntary.

You are free to withdraw from the trial at any time without needing to provide a reason and without penalty.

If you withdraw, no further research intervention will be required from you.

What happens to information already collected will depend upon the stage of the research, the applicable lawful basis for processing and whether the information has already been anonymised or incorporated into research analysis.

Once information has been fully anonymised so that it can no longer be linked to you, it may not be possible to identify and remove your individual information.

13. ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION

Research relies upon participants completing the agreed protocol as consistently as reasonably possible.

By joining the trial, you agree to make reasonable efforts to:

* attend scheduled sessions (or their replays prior to the following session)

* complete questionnaires and assessments honestly

* provide requested measurements accurately

* follow research instructions

* inform the team of significant changes that could affect your participation

* communicate with the team if you are unable to continue.

Repeated non-attendance or inability to follow the research protocol may result in withdrawal from the study.

14. WITHDRAWAL BY THE RESEARCH TEAM

The research team may discontinue your participation where reasonably necessary, including where:

* continuing could present a health or wellbeing concern;

* you no longer meet the eligibility criteria;

* there has been significant non-compliance with the research protocol;

* insufficient research data can be collected;

* circumstances arise that could materially affect the validity of your results; or

* the research trial itself is suspended or discontinued.

Where appropriate, the reason will be explained to you.

15. COST OF PARTICIPATION

Participation in the trial is free to Belief Coding® facilitators and £297 for those outside the Belief Coding® community.

Once you gain access to the online portal, the participation investment is non-refundable.
